Change Cygwin to use ZSH by default

Post  halala on Mon Dec 24, 2012 11:10 am

Since Cygwin is using mintty, the default shell is bash. I found a way to use zsh by default. All you have to do is edit the Cygwin Terminal shortcut and replace target field.

From:
C:\cygwin\bin\mintty.exe -i /Cygwin-Terminal.ico -

To
C:\cygwin\bin\mintty.exe -i /Cygwin-Terminal.ico /bin/zsh --login

It is not a good idea to do like this

Otherwise, you just change cygwin.bat to run zsh -l -i instead of bash --login -i and it will run as a login shell.
